Improving the quality of life for premature babies and their families.

The Client

Preeme+you facilitates the communication between parents of premature babies and medical teams. The web app accompanies parents along the stages of their baby's development, improving parental care and quality of life for the infants and their families.

Integrated by an international medical team from the United States, Chile, and Taiwan, Preeme+You has been working in the neonatal healthcare division for years.

The Task

When Preeme+you's team came to us, they had already conducted exhaustive research and created a pen-and-paper system that was being tested and validated in different healthcare facilities with real patients and families. This rudimentary tool helped pediatricians and medical teams follow the babies' evolution along the treatment stages.

The startup was looking to create a digital product that could solve a common problem that parents of premature babies face: doctors and health professionals have very busy schedules, and they don't have the needed time to provide in-depth information on the different stages a premature baby goes through. This situation, of course, causes anxiety for many parents.

On top of that, Preeme+You wanted to build an user-friendly app that helped them:

Automate data collection in neo-natal care for research purposes.
Improve the quality of life of the families with premature babies.
We decided to carry this project following an incremental product development approach.

The MVP

During the first part of this project, we teamed up with Preeme+you to design and develop a responsive web MVP. We focused on creating an intuitive user experience, prioritizing key features, and adjusting the platform's underlying logic to ensure a seamless performance.

The first version of the product aimed to reduce parents' stress by allowing them to proactively monitor their baby's progress and receive a constant flow of medical information, instead of having to wait for the interaction with the doctor.

Shortly after the release, Preeme+You's MVP earned important recognition among medical teams from one of the largest neonatal medicine conferences. Compared to other similar medical initiatives, the app showed an exceptional improvement in the parental quality of life.

Next step, the mobile version

After the initial success of the web app, Preeme+You was looking to work on a mobile version of the product, with two main goals:

Enhance the features that improved the parental quality of life
Implement minor tweaks and improvements on the app's underlying logic

At that point, Yaya Ren and her team had a clear vision of what was missing in the product. So, they defined the new direction they wanted the business to take.

We began the new iteration by conducting a Product Discovery phase. Preeme+You team had already validated the product idea through exhaustive research and collecting hard data from the app. Due to its complex logic, the app was working unpredictably, and users were asking for new features.

As the app's core logic used dense medical jargon, we had to process it all and translate it to a programmatic level.

We created a Product Requirement Document (PRD), BPMI flow diagrams, mockups, hi-definition wireframes, and Gherkin-based specifications for the app's behavior.

We also participated in the product's rebranding, slightly modifying the existing identity and changing the app's colors and styles.

Results

Preeme+You was able to improve their product's user experience and launch a web and a mobile application that earned important recognition from several medical teams and healthcare facilities.

Conclusions

The Preeme+You project was an opportunity of growth, not only for the product itself but for everyone involved. For us at Bixlabs, it was a fantastic possibility to test new techniques and gain a greater understanding of the way we want to conduct challenging, incremental projects.

We polished our Product Discovery process, we forged a strong relationship with the client, and put all our effort on taking this project to success.

Every decision we took along the product development process made us rethink the perspective we had on the app, and brought significant, positive changes to Preeme+You's product.
